Resource Summary:

The move from classroom to online course delivery has been occurring for a number of years and with the influx of e-learning technologies, the role of the academic has changed significantly. As academics, we are now expected to design online units that are effective, accessible, usable and inclusive to assist the learning needs of a very diverse student population.
This collection of free resources has been developed to address accessible design, usable design, and personalised learning. It is organised around the principles of Universal Design of Instruction, Universal Design of Learning, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. The resource provides valuable information, guidelines, tips and templates to assist academics in the design of universal online content and delivery.

Resource Objectives:

  1. Design and communicate content and instruction to accommodate a wide range of students with individual preferences and abilities
  2. Design content and instruction that is easy to understand, logically sequenced, and comprehensible
  3. Design content and instruction to be accessed efficiently, comfortable, with a minimum of fatigue, easy to navigate, and compatible with current and future assistive technologies.

Outcomes, Career Opportunities and Occupations:

Accessing this resource enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours and a CQUniversity Certificate of Completion.

Prerequisites: 

  • Domestic students - None.  Course suitable for year 11-12 students
  • International students - International students who do not meet IELTS 7 may find the course difficult with some of the legal materials, although the video and course material should be suitable for any student with IELTS 5.5.
